Fisher’s Gardens

St. Rt. 256 between Main St. & Livingston Ave. Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068 614-861-5700

  1. 1.Plant bulbs for spring color.  Use 1/2-2 teaspoons Bone Meal in each hole below the bulb.  Tulips, crocus, daffodils, allium, hyacinths, just to name a few!

  2. 2.Fertilize indoor ferns for the last time until February with a 1/2 strength dose of an all-purpose 20-20-20 fertilizer.

  3. 3.Use insecticidal soap for three weeks in a row on houseplants that have been outside.  Do this in the shade.  Bring your plants inside by the end of September.  You can make your own spray or Safer brand has a ready-to-use insecticidal soap on the market.

  4. 4.Pull up wild garlic and onions by hand otherwise they will never go away.

  5. 5.Remove peony supports, cut canes back to the soil line and throw them out in the trash.  Work an inch of compost (such as Posy Power) around the tubers to ensure flowering next spring.

  6. 6.Plant perennials, trees, and shrubs!  September is cool enough to make it easy on you and the plants plus there’s still plenty of time for the plants to get a good root establishment before the ground freezes.

  7. 7.Move iris, columbine, and phlox in late September.

  8. 8.Divide overgrown iris and daylilies.  You can either move them to another part of your garden or make a friend or neighbor happy by sharing your bounty.

  9. 9.Bring your tropical Hibiscus inside for the winter.  (see tip #3 first)
